²⁰ “Perhaps a story in and of itself. I had come in from Key West. I landed in the Port Authority Building during lunch rush, and was literally shoved into the street outside the subway station. When I got out on the street [ I’m skipping a chapter here believe it or not, concerning life & death, but we can come back to that later in the interest of time ] I looked up and down in quest of a tree. I knew two things about the City at that point. One, That a Tree Grew in Brooklyn, and most important, That at least another was rumoured to grow in Greenwich Village. You laugh, perhaps, but in this case, It was true. I headed off and a few minutes later was at Washington Square, sitting on the fountain, gazing upon the foot of Fifth Avenue- A place I was soon to call home.”
